Dear Client,

Starting from May 9, 2009 your deposits are insured as per Law no. 8873 dated 29.03.2002 “On Deposit Insurance” (Amended by the Law 10106 date 30.03.2009 “On some changes and amendments in Law no. 8873 date 29.03.2002 “On Deposits Insurance) approved by the Parliament of Republic of Albania and decreed by the President of the Republic of Albania.

The insurance is covered by the Deposit Insurance Agency (D.I.A.) established to serve to this purpose.

The Deposit at United Bank of Albania is insured for the amount up to 2.500.000,00 LEK (two million and five thousand) by the Deposits Insurance Agency according to provisions of Law no. 53/2014, date 22.05.2014 "On the Deposits' Insurance".

The insurance covers from risk, the resident or non-resident deposits (non-commercial) either in domestic or foreign currency held with U.B.A. according to the following amounts:

The D.I.A compensate the insured deposit, as per the provisions of this law, at 100% and, in every case, not more than 2,500,000 (two million five hundred thousand) LEK, for each depositor in every insured Bank, that operates in Republic of Albania, regardless the number of deposits or deposited amount.

The insured deposits of each depositor at UBA Bank, placed in different deposit accounts are aggregated and considered as a single deposit account. If deposits are held in different currencies, the amounts are converted into LEK, using the official exchange rate of Bank of Albania in the date of the intervention, and then they are aggregated into a single deposit account in LEK.

The Law on “Deposit Insurance” renders obligatory the membership by D.I.A of all banks and branches of foreign banks exercising activity in the Republic of Albania territory. United Bank of Albania Sh. A. is already considered “Insured Bank” and is provided by the Deposit Insurance Agency with the Certificate “For Deposits Insurance” No.3, date 11.05.2009.

According to the provisions of the Law “On Deposit Insurance”, the following deposits are excluded by the insurance and compensation:

  • a) Part of the deposit over 2,500 000 (two million five hundred thousand) Leke or its equivalent in foreign currency;
  • b) Deposits of the bank, of the branch of the bank, of the branch of the foreign bank and of the saving credit association held and acting according to its own name, and any other financial entity licensed by the Bank of Albania and Financial Supervisory Authority; ".
  • c) Deposits of the director, administrators and family members , according to family status certificate.
  • d) Deposits of each person who possess in a direct or indirect manner the property right of a shareholder up to the level of 5 percent (five percent) or more in the capital of UBA or shares with voting right related with the Bank;
  • e) Deposits of persons who perform the audit and certify the financial statements of the bank as well as the depositors with the same status in other companies of the same group; 
  • f) Deposits of any depositor of UBA who enjoy more than 20 percent (twenty percent) of preferential interest, different from the rate applied based on terms & conditions for all other depositors of the bank;
  • g) Deposits of any person within the Bank who uses the deposit account for criminal activity;
  • h) Non-nominative deposits, including deposits that contain securities of the bearer;
  • i) Deposits in Bank’s branches outside Albania;
  • j) Deposits placed at UBA Bank during and after the date of the intervention in the Bank. 
  • k) Deposits of legal entities - besides determining the law as follows:

physical persons, traders and trading companies, who have access to a payment of a deposit of a subject, a member of the scheme of deposit insurance, including title with full rights of a deposit in the joint and any beneficiary of a deposit to a third party. "

On December 20th, 2015, United Bank of Albania in cooperation with BBI Business Club, and with the valuable support of International Chamber of Commerce in Albania (ACITAD), organized the event: B2B Meetings between Albanian and Bosnian enterprises with the following theme: “Bridging Business Potential and Opportunities”.
This event gathered together at Tirana International Hotel, a significant number of enterprises coming  from Bosnia & Herzegovina, aiming the establishment of economic and cooperation relationships between the Albanian business community and of Bosnia & Herzegovina.; countries which belongs to the same geographical region and cultural traditions, too.
Among essential objectives, this organization served also to convey an important goal, “The promotion of Albania as an attractive option for further development of investment opportunities”.
B2B meetings within companies operating in the same industry were held, and made possible the participants to get familiar with their respective business activities, to explore additional opportunities for cooperation and partnership, to look for alternatives aiming the implementation of common investment projects, or between third parties, to value the possibilities to enter together in new markets of the region and beyond (such as in Europe, Middle and Far East). 
Agriculture, Trade (export-import, retail and wholesale trade), Energy, Tourism and Infrastructure Development, Wood processing, pharmaceutical and distribution, were some of the participant industries present in these B2B meetings.

In application of Bank of Albania’ Regulation No. 42, date 16.07.2008 “On Structure and Usage of International Bank Account Number (IBAN), United Bank of Albania has compiled this internal regulation which should be applied for all the payments carried through SWIFT, AECH and AIPS. 

The purpose of this regulation is to set out the structure of International Bank Account Number  - IBAN, the relationship between the bank and the clients relevant to the generation, capture, recognition and use of IBAN in Albania which identifies in National and International level  the client’s account with a bank. 

The usage of IBAN in Albania is carried out to fulfill the following:

  1.  The automated processing of Bank Accounts Identification by assisting their accomplishment in SWIFT, AECH and AIPS systems.
  2. The unification and standardisation of validation check process of the bank accounts.

Starting from 1st of June 2009, all the bank account numbers of the clients used to carry out transfers, in domestic or foreign currency, through payment systems or correspondent banks will have the IBAN format.

The IBAN in Albania is made out of 28 characters, representing the following components:

  1. AL- The code of Republic of Albania 
  2. Two digits after AL – The IBAN check digit
  3. Bank Identification Code (BIC) – composed of 8 numeric characters that identify the code for each Branch or Agency of the Bank as follows:
  • 20311003 – Head Office Tirana
  • 20311027 – Agency Boulevard - Tirana
  • 20311010 – Agency Tirana No.1
  • 20351102 – Shkodra Branch
  • 20321208 – Fier Branch
  • 20312303 – Durres Branch 
  1. The client’s account is made out of 16  alphanumeric characters

IBAN is represented in the electronic payment instructions without blank spaces or separator symbols between the alphanumeric characters.

IBAN is represented in paper format payment instructions split up in groups of 4 characters separated by a blank space.

For each new account opened in the Bank, the client must be provided with the IBAN code.

Starting from 1st of June 2009 all the Bank’s clients are informed about the IBAN system and their own IBAN for every carrying out or receiving payments in our Bank.

Starting from 1st of January 2010, the IBAN will be the only standard of the account number of a client. After this date, every payment carried out in our bank will be executed only with IBAN number. In cases when the IBAN misses, the bank can refuse to carry out the payment or can keep additional commissions (subject of following regulations).
